You can now render projects made in 3DS MAX 2027 with Corona 15 at the Megarender online render farm. These are the latest versions of the rendering software available. To ensure correct results, pack your scene with our plugin, which we also updated to support 3DS MAX 2027 and Corona 15. Below, we will take a look at the new features these versions introduce.
Corona 15: Faster Animation Rendering
The update most impactful to rendering is to Corona’s animation parsing between frames. Now, Corona updates only the objects that change instead of re-parsing the whole frame each time. In scenes with no or minimal camera movement, this saves time, which turns into saving money when rendering in Corona online.
Glints is a new layer for Corona Physical Material. It is useful for creating materials with small bright reflections on angled surfaces, such as snow or fractured glass. Glints can be found at the bottom of the Corona Physical Material settings in the Material Editor. A new Corona Light Override Material was added, which changes the material of an object depending on the light source currently illuminating it. It works similarly to Corona Layered Material: you assign the base material that appears by default and then assign alternative materials to other groups. For each group, pick a light source or several that will reveal this group’s material. When light from the group’s light source falls on the surface of the object, the group’s material will show instead of the base one. In places where light falls from several sources, the result will blend.
An exciting improvement comes in the shape of per-camera resolution and aspect ratio. Now, you can set a unique resolution in each Corona Camera and this data will be synced with Render Setup and Batch Render. Gone are the days of constant tweaking of resolutions between rendering; choosing a new camera will automatically apply the camera’s resolution with no additional input required.
Having purchased AXYZ Anima last year, Chaos has been working on expanding its functionality for seamless use in Corona and V-Ray. Corona 15 introduces city traffic with easy tools to generate parking lots and add crewed vehicles to existing scenes. The car models come with automatic head- and taillights, adding another layer of photorealism possible with this rendering engine.
3DS MAX 2027: Comfort in Modelling
Autodesk has been focusing on updating and improving modeling tools across several versions now. 3DS MAX 2027 introduces Smart Bevel, a modifier that greatly simplifies the Boolean workflow. Smart Bevel works better than Chamfer; the latter takes information only from the neighboring polygons, while the new modifier can walk past edges, keeping the overall shape of the object and not breaking geometry. Smart Bevel works well with Boolean objects and can generate smooth surfaces at intersections, where previously prior manual editing was required.
Another new modifier is Noise Plus, which adds more ways to affect the results inside the modifier with no need for additional tools and plugins. The modifier creates Simplex noise and comes with 5 fractal options for creating more consistent noise patterns across surfaces. Additionally, such noise can be easily animated by keying the Phase value.
Improvements were made to the existing modifiers. Spline Chamfer now gives an option to use a fixed radius for all affected points instead of distance-based chamfering. This brings consistency to the look of irregular splines. The Extrude modifier has a new option to set the direction in which extruding a spline should be performed instead of only being limited by the spline’s normal.
Other additions include Field Helper, a new viewport grid display, and small updates to Boolean and Array tools.
