Chaos Corona is a powerful rendering engine that provides some of the most photorealistic rendering available on the market. It is especially valued in architectural visualization and interior design, bringing rooms, houses, and whole city blocks to life. This performance comes at a cost: Corona is very demanding of CPU and RAM size, and upgrading a workstation for the best performance is quite costly. That’s where Corona render farms come in. Here’s how Megarender can help you get the best result out of your project.

Why choose a Corona render farm?

Chaos Corona’s algorithm is based on path-tracing, a process that imitates how light works in the real world. Photons or rays of light are cast out of the camera; they bounce around the scene, reflecting off various surfaces until they reach a light source. The render engine then analyzes the paths taken and transforms this data into the color of the pixels of the final image. Corona Renderer can cast and analyze tens of millions of paths at any moment, and this number directly depends on the CPU performance, as it is a CPU-only render engine, but GPU AI denoising is also available. To ensure the maximum performance, a CPU for Corona should have a high number of cores and threads; the more threads, the more paths can be traced at the same time, and the faster the rendering will be. 

Modern top-of-the-line consumer-grade processors usually come with 16 cores and 32 threads. Such processors (like AMD Ryzen 9950X and Intel i9 14500K) are great for rendering in Corona. But they not only come with a higher price but also require powerful cooling which in turn raises requirements for the computer case. You can offload all of this to a Corona render farm instead. At Megarender, we have a whole fleet of powerful server-grade CPUs, including the AMD Threadripper 3990X, each having 64 cores and 128 threads, making it more powerful than any modern PC CPU.

Another thing Chaos Corona is very demanding of is the volume of RAM available on the computer. Corona loads all the textures into RAM for fast access during rendering, so the more textures you have and the larger they are, the more space it requires. Other RAM-hungry features include proxies, scatters, and certain procedurally generated geometry. At the beginning of 2026, RAM prices skyrocketed, so upgrading or buying new RAM became very hard. At Megarender, all our servers come with 256 GB RAM, ensuring no slowdowns or crashes even for city-sized projects. 

Does Corona render farm support LightMix?

Corona LightMix allows you to adjust lighting in the scene during and after the rendering. It’s one of the best tools in Corona, a real time-saver when it comes to exploring lighting scenarios and fixing small mistakes without re-rendering anything. The interactive part of LightMix is available from the dedicated tab in the framebuffer.

At a render farm, you don’t have direct access to the workstation, so changing LightMix on the go is not possible. However, you can still render with LightMix at Megarender. Whatever LightMix is already in the scene will be rendered on the farm too and will be saved as a separate render element; depending on your setup, a separate render element will be created for each light or a group of lights. 

To directly influence and change LightMix on your project after rendering, save your output file as a CXR (Corona EXR) and then open it in the Corona Image Editor. This way, you will have all your LightMix data and you will be able to adjust any values you need. Remember that CXR files are large and so it may take longer to download them after rendering.
